Using Modifiers
Modifiers let customers customize their orders—extra cheese, substitute fries for salad, choose a size. They make your menu flexible without creating dozens of separate items.
What Are Modifiers?
Modifiers are options attached to menu items. When customers view an item, they see the available customizations:
- Add-ons: Extra toppings, sides, upgrades (+$)
- Choices: Required selections (cooking temperature, bread type)
- Substitutions: Swap one thing for another
Creating a Modifier Group
- Go to Menus > Modifiers
- Click Create Modifier Group
- Enter a name (e.g., "Burger Toppings", "Pasta Add-ons")
- Add options with prices
- Set rules (required/optional, min/max selections)
- Click Save

Reusing Modifier Groups

- "Spice Level" for all curries
- "Side Choices" for all entrees
Edit the modifier group once, and changes apply everywhere it's used.
Best Practices
- Name clearly: "Choose Your Bread" beats "Bread Options"
- Price fairly: Cover your costs but don't surprise customers
- Keep it simple: Too many modifiers overwhelm people
- Set sensible defaults: Pre-select the most popular option
