Organizing with Categories
Categories help customers find what they're looking for quickly. Think of them as sections on a physical menu—Appetizers, Main Courses, Desserts, and so on.
Creating a Category
- Go to Menus and select your menu
- Click Add Category
- Enter a name (e.g., "Starters", "Pasta", "Kids Menu")
- Add an optional description
- Click Save

Tip: Keep category names short and familiar. "Apps" might be trendy, but "Appetizers" is clearer for everyone.
Reordering Categories
Drag and drop categories to change their display order:
- Hover over the category
- Grab the drag handle (⋮⋮)
- Move it to the desired position
- Changes save automatically

Editing a Category
- Click the category name or the edit icon
- Update the name or description
- Click Save
Hiding vs. Deleting
- Hide: Temporarily removes category from your website but keeps all items intact. Great for seasonal menus.
- Delete: Permanently removes the category. Items inside become uncategorized.
To hide a category, toggle the visibility switch off.
Category Descriptions
Descriptions appear below the category name on your website. Use them to:
- Set the mood ("Light bites perfect for sharing")
- Note restrictions ("Available after 5pm")
- Highlight specials ("Chef's weekly rotating selection")
Best Practices
- Keep it logical: Group similar items together
- Limit categories: 4-8 categories per menu works well
- Use clear names: Customers should know what's inside
- Consider the journey: Put popular categories where people expect them
Common Questions
Can I have the same item in multiple categories?
Not directly, but you can create a copy of the item and place it in another category.
Why isn't my new category showing on my website?
Make sure:
- The category has at least one visible item
- The category visibility is toggled on
- You've published your menu
