Size Recommendations
QR codes need to be large enough to scan reliably:
| Use Case | Minimum Size | |----------|--------------| | Table tent (arm's length) | 1" x 1" (2.5 cm) | | Counter sign | 1.5" x 1.5" | | Poster (a few feet away) | 3" x 3" | | Billboard | Calculate for distance |
Rule of thumb: 1 inch of QR code per 6 feet of scanning distance.
Printing Tips
Quality Matters
- Print on high-quality paper or materials
- Avoid glossy surfaces (they cause glare)
- Matte finishes work best
Contrast is Key
- Black code on white background scans best
- Avoid low-contrast colors
- Don't place codes on busy backgrounds
Test Before Mass Printing
- Print one copy
- Scan it with your phone
- Verify it goes to the right place
- Then print the rest
Add a Call-to-Action
QR codes work better with context:
- "Scan for Menu"
- "Scan to Leave a Review"
- "Point your camera here"
Don't assume people know what to do.
Where to Print
Self-Printing
Home or office printer works for:
- Table tents
- Small signs
- Testing
Professional Printing
For higher quality:
- Local print shops
- Online services (Vistaprint, etc.)
- Menu/signage specialists
Specialty Items
QR codes can go on:
- Business cards
- Stickers
- Posters and banners
- Packaging
- Receipts (digital integration)
Troubleshooting
Code won't scan after printing
- Print larger
- Increase contrast
- Check print quality (not blurry)
- Avoid glossy/reflective surfaces
- Ensure nothing overlaps the code
Code looks pixelated when enlarged
Use SVG format for large prints. PNG can pixelate at big sizes.
Colors not scanning well
Stick to black and white. Light colors on light backgrounds often fail.
Common Questions
Can I add my logo to the QR code?
Welcome generates standard QR codes. For branded codes with logos, you'd need external design tools.
How long do downloaded codes stay valid?
Forever—as long as the QR code exists in Welcome, the downloaded file works.
Can I print on colored paper?
Dark code on light paper works. Avoid dark paper or colors too similar to the code.
