Job Posting Statuses

Job postings have different statuses that control their visibility. Here's what each one means.

Status Types

Draft

  • Visible to you: Yes
  • Visible on website: No
  • Accepts applications: No

Draft jobs are works in progress. Use draft status to:

  • Build the posting before it's ready
  • Prepare jobs in advance
  • Keep templates for recurring positions

Published

  • Visible to you: Yes
  • Visible on website: Yes
  • Accepts applications: Yes

Published jobs are live! Candidates can see them and apply. This is the active hiring state.

Closed

  • Visible to you: Yes
  • Visible on website: No
  • Accepts applications: No

Closed jobs are no longer active. Use closed status when:

  • You've filled the position
  • You're pausing hiring
  • The role is no longer needed

Closed jobs retain their applications for your records.

Changing Status

Draft to Published

  1. Open the job posting
  2. Click Publish
  3. Job immediately appears on your website

Published to Closed

  1. Open the job posting
  2. Click Close or change status to Closed
  3. Job disappears from website; applications preserved

Closed to Published (Reopen)

  1. Open the closed job
  2. Click Publish or change status
  3. Job reappears on website

Any Status to Draft

Edit the posting and save as draft instead of publishing.

Status Workflow

Typical flow:

  1. Create → Draft
  2. Ready to hire → Published
  3. Position filled → Closed

You can move between statuses as needed.

Finding Jobs by Status

In your Jobs dashboard:

  • View all jobs
  • Filter by status (Draft, Published, Closed)

Best Practices

Don't Leave Old Jobs Published

Candidates get frustrated applying to filled positions. Close jobs promptly when hired.

Use Drafts for Planning

Create drafts for upcoming hiring needs. They're ready to publish when you need them.

Reopen Instead of Recreate

If the same position opens again, reopen the closed job (update details if needed) rather than creating from scratch.

Common Questions

Can I delete a job instead of closing it?

Yes, but deleted jobs and their applications are gone permanently. Closing preserves the record.

What do candidates see if I close a job?

The job disappears from your website. If someone has the direct URL, they see it's no longer available.

Can I have unlimited published jobs?

Yes—publish as many open positions as you have.
